About – Amanzi Challenge: presented by BS Sports

Our History

The founder of BS Sports, Mr Zweli Nkwinti met Philanthropist and Visionary, Martin Bekker in 2017, and presented to the idea of what was originally known as the Amanzi Festival to Martin and his wife, Linda Bekker. At this time, Nkwinti was looking for sponsors to help his dream of making this event come to life a success. Mr Bekker had fallen in love with Port Alfred while coming to the town on holiday and being the visionary that he was, he saw an opportunity to make a difference to this beautiful town by tapping into its tourism potential. This idea resulted in the Royal St. Andrews Hotel – a world class hospitality facility with the purpose of assisting in leading the way to create another world renowned South African destination. The Bekkers had opened the newly refurbished and redeveloped award-winning Royal St. Andrews Hotel two years before meeting Mr Nkwinti, with the vision of growing and promoting the Eastern Cape and Port Alfred. The idea of the Amanzi Festival resonated with the owners of the Hotel and finding alignment with Nkwinti’s idea, the Bekker’s decided to come on board and committed to Sponsor the event every year under the Hotel name, becoming the main sponsor of the event. Mr Bekker sadly passed away at the beginning of 2022, the Hotel continues to sponsor the event under Mr Bekker’s son, Justin Bekker.
